2015- What a Year for Sci-fi?

Wow! 2015 was an epic year as far as science fiction is concerned. Now that it’s New Year’s Eve, it’s time to be looking back.

First of all… Marvel! Thad an awesome year during which they celebrated 40 years and they made 2 awesome movies. Age of Ultron was just amazing and I missed Ant-man in theaters so I’m watching him for the first time this Monday. 2015 also said hello to Agents of SHIELD season 3, a few games and heaps of great comics. And not to mention that incredible Civil War trailer.

Next up, it’s our old friends at DC. They released The Arrow season 3, The Flash season 2 and… yeah. Do they really want to be credited for what they did to tv with Supergirl season 1? But anyways, they also had a bunch of cool comics, one or two games and the Dawn of Justice trailer.

Next though, is Star Wars. Lots of stuff this year. A new animated tv show, new video game and… of course… the one and only… new lunchbox!!! No, just kidding. It’s the one and only Force Awakens.

Sci-fi mainly just stayed in those 3 categories this year, but there still was more. We had The Martian (which I do clasify as sci-fi), Jurrasic World and everybody’s disappointment of the year… The Fantastic Four! I didn’t class it as Marvel, because the movie itself was made by 20th Century fox, but the characters were of course made by Marvel.

So, that should more less wrap up the year. Let me know in the comments if you think that I missed something major and I hope that you come back next year (tomorrow) to see me listing sci-fi for 2016. So thank you for staying with me for almost all of December and I hope that I will be able to continue this little personal blog until December 2016 and even longer.

All of your feedback is very much appreciated. Even if you don’t have a WordPress account or don’t have time to leave a comment, please at least fill in the poll below. It only take 2 clicks and it will really help me with my blog. Once again 2015 was a great year, so let’s hope that 2016 will be even greater. Happy New Year, everybody! 🙂

I h8 Mid-Season Breaks!!! (Agents of SHIELD)

Agents of SHIELD. The show that everybody’s watching. Now that it’s season three, the show’s better than ever! But we only just reached episode 10 out of 22 and the big heads at Marvel Studios ordered a mid-season break. What the heck? Yes, I know. Pretty much every cool tv show is now on a break, even The Flash. But in this pie I just wanna talk to you a about a bit and give you my thoughts. So please be aware that THERE WILL BE SPOILERS OF THE PREVIOUS SEASONS AND THE BEGINNING OF SEASON THREE!!! So, let’s get started. So first of all if you never heard of The Agents of SHIELD, it’s basically an awesome live-action MARVEL tv show which is part of the MCU. It is about a group of SHIELD agents fighting to make the world a safer place. The main characters are Skye, Coulson, May, Ward, Mack, Fitz, Simmons and a few other. Firs of all, season one. At the time when I was watching it, it seemed like a pretty decent tv show. But now that I look back it just look lame. Unlike many other tv shows, Agents of SHIELD seem to be getting even better as the seasons go on. But the first season still had quite a good script and a big reveal that [SPOILER ALERT] Ward is evil. Wow! Next,  it was season 2. This season was MUCH better. Ward came back as a vilain, but there was another war going on. The inhumans were introduced in this season and onther big reveal happened that [SPOILER ALERT] Skye is inhuman and her name actually isn’t Skye. It’s Daisy. Sounds familiar? An inhuman called Daisy from the Marvel comics? Anyway, onto season 3. This is the best season so far according to me. Much more action and all. The main reason this season is that SHEILD is slowly but surely starting development on The Inhumans hero team. The movie will hit cinemas in 2018! Hype! So, yeah. Agents of SHIELD is an awesome tv show. I think that everyone should watch it and anticipate season 3 part 2. That’s it for now. Make sure that you come back soon for even more daily content.

Sci-Fi IRL: The Raspberry Pi

I’m sorry, but with all of the fuss with Star Wars and Christmas recently, I didn’t get to write any sci-fi IRL posts. But I guess that now you cannot complain because you are reading one. So basically another awesome thing I got for Christmas was a Raspberry Pi. The version I got was the Pi 2 model B, which is probably the best version for playing around with and learning to code.

But the same company also released the Pie Zero. It’s the smallest computer on Earth with such capacity and it fits between your index finger and your thumb. For those who are unaware, the Raspberry Pi is the smallest computer in the world and many people do cool stuff with it. For example: a retro arcade, a remote control car or even a working microwave.

So basically if you order you get a circuit board with a whole bunch of stuff on it. You can also buy add-ons for exaple cameras and things like that. The Raspberry Pi Zero is, like I said, the smallest computer with such capacity and you can also create lots of stuff with it. The awesome thing about Raspberry Pi is that it’s so incredible, but you can get one for under thirty euro. It sure is adding the ‘technology’ into ‘home technology’.

So, I really hope that you enjoyed this short pi about the Raspberry Pie. Oops, sorry. Wrong way around. I really hope that you enyojed this pie about the Raspberry Pi.

Also I realized that many of the visitors on my blog do not have a WordPress account so from now on every post is going to include a contact form for you to give me your feedback and a poll for you to rate my posts. Of course if you do have a WordPress account I would encourage you to just use the comment section. But I want everybody to feel free to give me your honest opinion in the poll. Once again, thank you for reading and I hope that you stick around because I have daily posts to quench all of your sci-fi needs.

Would Darth Vader boogie with a wookie?

For Christmas among other great things I got an awesome bag. It has a picture of Darth Vader and it’s captioned, “Who’s Bad?” in the Star Wars font. It’s very handy with enough room for a computer and a big A4 notebook.  Overall, I love it!

But this made me think. Of course, I know that this is just a bag, but would Darth Vader actually say that. Lets start off with the fact that there is probably no Michael Jackson in a galaxy far, far away. But Vader sure did some pretty stupid things. Well. if we’re even going to count betraying the Jedi, he did some very stupid things. He also took some very extreme measures. For example, destroying Alderaan.

But if free from the Emperror’s grip, what else would he do? Well, he lost his wife, his beliefs and of course the Jedis’ trust. So would he still be evil, or would he slowly start turning back into Ani from Tatooine? Personally, I think that he would become a pod-racer again. But that’s only if he stopped being evil. I don’t think that he would become a Jedi again, or that he would be allowed to.

The thing about Vader is that the reason he’s evil isn’t because he’s mad or insane. It’s because he believes in the Dark Side. He hates the Jedi. Yeah, if Sidious wasn’t there, he probably wouldn’t be doing so many horrible things, but but just makes him a more complicated person and a great villian.

And yes, I know. I have watched the Return of the Jedi. I know that Vader does still become good, but I would hardly say that he became good. If you have the perfect position to easily kill the worst tyran in the galaxy, then who wouldn’t take it. He just did the right thing. So to answer the question: no, Darth Vader would never boogie with a wookie.

Thanks for reading this pie. I also got another cool present for Christmas which I will be talking about tomorrow. And check out the image below. I don’t know who made it, but it’s labled for reuse. Since I have no idea who made it, I’m afraid I cannot give credit. It is awesome though.

vader vs my little pony
Maybe Vader wouldn’t boogie with a wooki. But           would he dance with my little pony?

Sci-Fi related gifts

It’s Christmas Eve already!!! Later on today we will sit down to have our Christmas dinner (since we are Polish we have Christmas dinner on Eve). So in this pie, I decided to talk about something somewhat Christmas-y. Gifts. Okay, this isn’t a gift guide. I will just be talking a bit about science fiction related merchandise. First of all, The Force Awakens came out last week, but we have had merchandise for the past year or so.

There is an interesting theory that nowadays big entertainment companies like Marvel, DC and LucasFilm get their main money form merchandise and they use comics and movies as a form of marketing. More or less, this is true. I mean, for the past month, every single shop has had Star Wars related products. The same thing was when the Age of Ultron was coming out and I am not expecting anything different to happen with The Dawn of Justice.

But they don’t only earn money from merchandise when a new movie is coming out. Oh, no. Merchandise is a great way for them to earn money all year round. Let’s talk about toys for a minute. No matter how inappropriate the franchise, there will just always be toys. I can bet you anything that when the R-rated Deadpool hits cinemas, there will be toys. And there will always be toys because of the possibility of making kids fans and that as they grow older they will become even greater fans.

Imagine that a toddler recieves a Chewbacca doll. He loves it, sleeps with it, washes it and everything else. Soon, as he become older, he wants to watch the Star Wars movies (because of his doll), and loves them even more since he has a Chewie toy.

What other forms of merch are there? Clothes of course! Clothes are great for branding. If someone wears an Avengers t-shirt to work everyday, the people that he works with might never forget the Marvel logo. So, that was this slightly festive pie. I wish you a very merry Christmas and of course don’t forget to come back tomorrow for something even Christmas-ier. Be jolly!

Chewbacca doll. Well, bobble-head at least.

The Force Awakens – My Thoughts

Wow! I saw it! I saw it! I was taking part in that historic week, that Star Wars is coming back. Awesome movie! AWESOME MOVIE!!! Okay, so I would hope that you got a chance to see it by now, but if not, please do not proceed with reading this article. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Keep reading at your own risk, although I really would recommend that you watch the movie first.

So, now more squabbling, let’s get straight into into it. First of all, it really is a great movie. Of course, it’s not as good as the originals, but it’s pretty good. I would rate it 9.5 out of 10. I love how they still have roles for the original characters, despite their age. And personally, I am pretty glad that [spoiler alert] Han Solo died. I mean, Harry Ford was quite old anyway ans since Han was the epic pilot/action-man in the gang, it was not a bad decision to replace him with Finn and Rey.

Next up, the stormtroopers finally play a part in the story. They were always just the men in armour that everybody had fun of because they could never hit a target. Also we never felt sorry for them before, but now we really know where all of them came from. They were normal people taken from their family at a young age only to be trained and brain washed by the empire. Sound similiar? It should! This adds a whole bunch of controversy, because that’s pretty much what the Jedi do as well. Maybe apart from the whole brain wash thing. It’s great to see that the stormtroopers are actually causing chaos now.

Now, for the main reveal of the movie [spoiler alert] Kylo Ren is Han and Leia’s son!?!? Awesome! So it really does rhyme with the orginal. It’s all the other way around. First a Jedi turned evil has a son who is a hero and then a smuggler turned into a hero has a son who is evil. But I don’t think that this masked lunatic with big anger issues got enough screen time. That’s just my opinion. Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I’m afraid that there is so much that I want to talk to you about concerning this epic film, but this pie is already too long. So thank you for staying here to read my thoughts on the movie and I really want to know what you thought of it. Thank you for reading! 😉

The Force Awakens – Expectations

Yes!!! Today I am going to see the Force Awakens. What an awesome movie it’s going to be-I have no doubts. But that sure doesn’t mean that I won’t have any expectations.

So first of all, I want to see good special effects. I know that LucasFilm promised to mostly use practical effects, but let’s make sure that they still keep up to date with the technology of today. I really suggest watching the ComicCon behind the scenes video. They really show a lot of REAL explosions REAL ships and a REAListic Chewbacca mask. That makes me happy and I sure hope that we will get to see all of that in the movie. Oh, and here’s the video I was talking about:

I wouldn’t describe it better. “Nothing has changed, but everything has changed”. Onto our next one, I want a good story filled with twists and turns along the way. Many peoples’ jaws dropped when it turned out that Vader was Luke’s father, and I am hoping for the same effect within the sequel trilogy. And a few unexpected turns in this specific movie would be quite nice too.

My next expectation is that they actually show the time that has passed since The Return of the Jedi. It’s been 3 decades, so a lot must have happened to the characters and to the galaxy far, far away.

Talking about the galaxy far, far away, my next one is that they do include the glorious intro that has been before every single Star Wars movie so far in the saga. Why shouldn’t they include it in the new movie? Sure, it looks a bit archaic, but as the quote of the century goes “We want nothing to change, but everything to change.” Seriously, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you better watch that BTS video.

Anyway, those were some of my expectations for the Force Awakens. I would love to hear about yours. But until tomorrow, do NOT spoil the movie for me! I hope that you enjoyed this pie and make sure that you check back tomorrow, as I will be giving you my thoughts on the film.

The Return of the Magi

It’s Chritmas… Week! But don’t worry, everybody has already in the spirit since early October. But is Star Wars in the spirit? Okay, so in 1978 they had one Christmas special. But not many people liked it. Especially that it wasn’t even directed by George Lucas. But hey, maybe there will be another Christmas special soon. Possibly in December 2017. Do you wanna know why?

Well think about it. If the first Christmas special came out inbetween the first and the second installment in the original trilogy, then possibly another one will come out between the first and the second installment in the sequel trilogy. Of course, we didn’t have one between the first two movies of the prequel trilogy, but that is probably because LucasFilm was still recovering from the hate that they got for deciding to even make a movie with a a nine-year-old Vader and they really couldn’t afford to get even more by making another Christmas special.

For those confused by the way, the Star Wars Christmas Special was a live-action one-and-a-half hour tv movie. But don’t worry, you can legally watch it for free on YouTube, since the movie was only fully aired once and the only other way to watch it is to get it as part of a promotional DVD. I doubt that the movie even has copyright. It was just a low-budget Christmas Special.

Also I sort of like the idea that they introduced the major charcater Bobba Fett, but even if you hadn’t watched it, you would still understand the Empire Strikes back. So the movie was just a sort of bonus or extra adventure with the characters, which is not at all important for the story of the overall saga.

But why did it recieve so much hate then? Well, probably because it was, as I said, a low budget tv movie. It was not supposed to be a huge hit, it was just a Christmas present from LucasFilm, to all of us.  So that wraps up (get it?) all that I really had to say about the Christmas Special.

And yes, I know. The Force Awakens is an epic movie. I know! I know! Please, I’begging you. Do not tell me ANYTHING about the new movie. I am seeing it tomorrow. So tomorrow morning I will talk about my expectations and on Wednsday I will be giving you my thoughts. Thank you for enjoying this pie.

The Choir Strikes Back

In this pie I will be talking about everybody’s favourite… music! BTW Yesteday was Bethoven’s birthday. LOL.So, Star Wars always had the best movie music. But let’s go into it a little deeper.

First of all, the the theme tune. Whenever you hear it you feel like you’re diving head first into world of Star Wars. Next, the Cantina song. This is just so iconic. The is the song played during the scene in the cantina on Tatooine in A New Hope. It is also played durng the best Subway ad ever.

Of course I cannot say that I don’t absolutely love the music in the latest Force Awakens trailer, because that would be lying. It’s epic! Then there is of course the Imperial March that no one will ever forget, although people do get it mixed up with the main theme.

All of the tremendous music in Star Wars was composed by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Amazing. And even more amazing, Johnny Williams is back for episode seven!

Of course all the music in the Star Wars films has been specially composed for the movies. I mean, the music couldn’t fit in better. And it’s great to hear that the newest installment in the saga will be no exeption.

Every movie so far has had it’s own special soundtracks, but they are all connected by one famouse iconic motif. The Star Wars theme tune, which has appeared in every episode so far. Not only is it in the originals, but the trend was also continued for the prequel trilogy. And now it’s expected to be more of a tradition.

Fans would never forgive Disney if they didn’t hear the theme in one of the films. Especially that nowadays it is trendy for films in the same franchise to all have different opening, closing and main themes. Star Wars is just always staying with the original song. And that is good.

Thank you for enjoying this pie. Today is the European premiere of the Force Awakens, but as I already mentioned in a previous pie, I am not seeing it until Tuesday. So feel free to give me your feedback, but for the sake of the Force, please don’t give me any unwanted spoilers. Thank you!
