Don’t Ruin Superheroes!!!

Science fiction can come in all shapes and sizes. There is science fiction for women, science fiction for little kids, science fiction for men and much more. But one of the most popular categories of science fiction are superheroes.

Superhero stories can be enjoyed, reviewed and that’s it. You cannot change superheroes. You have to respect them. Of course, it’s totally fine that there are superhero cartoons for little kids and that there are superheroes targeted at female viewers. That’s all fine. But what McDonalds did recently, is just outrageous.

People in the marketing department of McDonalds get a huge paycheck for working on stuff like branding, but also Happy Meal toys. Now I don’t know about other countries, but the current series of toys in Irish McDonalds, are Hello Kitty dressed up as superheroes.

What the heck!?!? I can see the marketing department just sitting there and saying “Hmm… How can we make toys that both boys and girls will enjoy? I know! We can make toys with Hello Kitty dressed up as DC heroes. Yes that sounds good enough.”

Of course I don’t eat Happy Meals, so why am I so angry about this? Because small kids will think that Supergirl is some sort of giant overly cute cat with some weird suit on. They will think the same about Batgirl, Wonderwoman and other awesome superheroins.

Now yes, they did at least have enough decency to leave the male heroes as they are, but the poor female heroes will be scarred for life. No one will look at them the same ever again.

Although to be honest the toys themselves are pretty cool. They’re giving actual working digital watches. The only problem is that… yeah. I wonder if DC Comics even knew what was going to happen with the female characters.

Anyway, I hope that you had fun reading this post. There will be a knew one tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the day after the day after tomorrow, because I publish a short science fiction related post every single weekday. Once again, I hope that you enjoyed this one and have a Tremendous Tuesday. So long!

Since I didn’t find any pictures of the toys, I found a fellow Polish man who did a review on them. However fortunately for us all, he skipped the Hello Kitty ones.
