The Avengers were in the Quinjet and were flying towards the S.H.I.E.L.D base in Alaska. Suddenly Natasha got up from her seat and she walked up to Maria Hill. “Can we have a sec?” she asked.
“Sure…” Maria Hill got up from her seat as well. They both went to the radar room, because there was nobody in there. “What do you want, Agent Romanoff?” Maria was still confused.
“Do you think that myself and Clint have been good help to you?”
“Of course, you have been…”
“Well, you promised us a little something, remember?”
“To hell you did! You promised to tell us something about our past!” Natasha was shouting by now. Maria Hill just sighed.
“Listen, what if I tell you two after this whole Loki-thing is over, ok?” Natasha shook her head.
“You can tell me now!”
“Fine! Fine! Just be quite, ok.”
“Listen, Natasha. Do you remember what happened in 2012?”
“Yeah, I joined the Avengers.”
“Not true. That wasn’t the first Avengers team. You were a member of the original Avengers. Sort of. You were a member of the Howling commandos.”
“The Howling Commandos were created decades before I was born!”
“Yes, but what most people don’t know, is that they existed up to 2012. Of course, the only member of the original Howling Commandos that was still alive was Captain Rogers. But at a certain point, you were also a member. When we wanted you to join the Avengers, you were very doubtful. You didn’t want to join, because you said that you’ve had enough of being a member of a team. We thought that T.A.H.I.T.I would just encourage your brain to think differently. But we were wrong. Your entire memory up to that point was wiped. All you remembered then was being a member of the KGB which still encouraged you to join the Avengers because you wanted to clear your past. So, in the end, we got what we wanted, but in a much less humane way.”
“What the hell!?!”
“We didn’t know that it was going to wipe your entire memory. But I guess that still doesn’t justify us. We shouldn’t have tried untested experiments on you. I guess that we got the calculations wrong.”
“Who else was a member of the Howling Commandos with me!?!”
“By 2012, it was only you, Hawkeye and Cap. We accidentally wiped Hawkeye’s memory as well, but Cap was okay with joining the Avengers anyway, so we didn’t need to encourage him.” Natasha would have either said something, shouted something or punched Maria, but Tony Stark’s voice spoke in the speaker.
“Everybody needs to go back to their seats now. We will be landing within the next 3 minutes. We are now over Alaska. Please make sure not to make any noise, because we are currently cloaked, which means that the quinjet will temporarily be invisible.” Everybody sat in their seat. They landed right outside the base. The quinjet was still cloaked.
They already had a plan of action. Hawkeye shot an explosive arrow at the base opening a window for Iron Man to put a big bomb in the base. They would then take all of the hostages, all of the S.H.I.E.L.D equipment and one chituari soldier for interrogation. They thought that the plan was working, only that one of the Chituari managed to defuse the bomb.
“Dammit!” exclaimed Iron Man. “Since when are they so smart?”
“Loki may have put a spell on them,” said Thor. But the avengers managed to rescue the hostages anyway and they were going back to the Quinjet. Suddenly, Deathlock went out.
“Time for me to have some fun!” Mike Peterson shouted. Cap was trying to stop him, but Deathlock managed to fire several small missiles and explosives at the S.H.I.E.L.D base.
“Wow. That was actually pretty good. What’s your name?” asked Cap.
“Call me Mike.” But they could barely celebrate. Mike may have managed to destroy some of the base, but his armor needed to recharge and about half of the chituari were still in there. The Avengers accepted the fact that they didn’t really succeed this time and they flew back to Manhattan. What they didn’t know, was that someone else got onto the Quinjet.
