There will be EXTREME spoilers ahead for all of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 3. You have been warned. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
This was an amazing episode. Wow! I loved all of it. Just in case you forgot, MARVEL promised that someone would die in this episode. And someone sure died! [SPOILERS] Rest in peace, Lincoln. But, I called it! In this post I called it that Lincoln is one of the three most likely members of the team to die.
But, damn, it sure was a heartbreaking death. To be completely honest, I had his death spoiled for me on the internet a few days ago (thanks a lot, internet!) but I was still very sad when Link was in that quinjet and was flying towards orbit. And then, there was that final minute of both Lincoln’s and Hive’s life. They were on opposing sides throughout the entire conflict, they were opposite sides of the spectrum. And yet they both knew that they were going to die in 60 seconds and they spent that minute together looking at the beauty of our planet from outer space. In my opinion, this is the best scene in all 3 seasons of the show so far.
MARVEL also continued their tradition of putting a Star Wars reference wherever possible. Hive thought he was talking with Coulson, but he was in fact, talking with a hologram of Coulson. And then Phil says Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope, quoting Leia in A New Hope. It’s these tiny moments that make MARVEL so awesome.
I have very little complaints about this episode. I mean, when Hive turned into that Flying Dutchman monster, he looked a little grotesque, but who gives a damn about that kind of thing.
There is a cool Easter egg I noticed in this episode. I’m not sure if it was on purpose or a complete accident, but when Lincoln was in the quinjet and he was talking to Daisy on the radio, it looked a lot like that scene from The First Avenger. I made this side-by-side comparison for you:
I really liked the fact that a few times they made you think that it was actually going to be some else who dies. As I said, I already knew it was going to be Lincoln, but at a few moments, I really thought that it was actually going to be some else. For example, when Yo-Yo took those bullets for Mac.
