As you might know, if you follow my blog for a while, I’m a huge fan of fan-made science fiction films. I notice that there is a particularly large amount of Star Wars fan-films. I already reviewed two of them, i.e Kara and Rebel Scum. Today I will be reviewing a third one.
Fall of the Jedi is an awesome fan-made Star Wars film about Kylo Ren’s brother and sister who were also being trained by Luke, but they managed to get away with their lives. The film was directed by Charlie Mason and Jessica Jones (I doubt that’s her real name) and it has a total run time of 7:46 minutes including the credits. I just want to mention that this post will contain spoilers for the film, so I suggest to watch the film first. Just scroll down a bit and you should see it embedded into the post.
First of all, I love the fact that they are still just Padawans. They are conscious of the fact that they are still very inexperienced, unlike Luke in the original trilogy. The film begins with the iconic Star Wars title crawl, pretty much just explaining that Ben Solo rebelled against Luke and joined the First Order. His two siblings land their ship on some planet and as soon as they get out of their ship, they start catching their breath.
They soon run over a hill and see two funky-dressed Sith Force-choking somebody. First of all, I must point out that I love this re-imagining of the Sith. They could have just gone for the classic ‘black robes-black cape’, but no. These two Sith have a bit of red on them and one of them even has a painted face. As soon as they are finished with the person they were strangling, they notice the two Padawans. Naturally, they all have a fight. And the fight truly is awesome. This is nothing like the Darth Vader duel count-fighting from episode V. This battle is beautifully choreographed.
Eventually, one of the Padawans drops their lightsaber. The other one runs over and stabs the Sith that was going to kill her. However, the other Sith then comes along and stabs the Padawan that stabbed the Sith. Lots of stabbing in this film. But, nah, I’m not complaining. This is shot in a very awesome way. After each ‘stabbing’ you get to see the reaction on everybody’s face. In the end, the two Padawans kill the two Sith, but one of them is injured and they must still be on the run from their evil brother Kylo Ren.
Overall, this is a very awesome film, especially that it’s fan-made. I hope you all check it out for yourself and check out Harrison Films who made this and other awesome flicks.
