Steve Rogers in no Longer Cap!?!?

Zeesh! I’m still getting through the piles on announcements that happened during the holidays. Anyway, the announcement I’m tackling today is that it has been officially confirmed that Steve Rogers will no longer be our Captain in the MARVEL Cinematic Universe. Wait, what!?!?

Now, I only have one single issue with this. Remember that scene in Civil War where at the end of the third act after the battle between Iron Man, Cap and Winter Soldier on Siberia, Iron Man was lying there injured on the ground. And then as Cap was leaving, he made him drop his shield. I honestly thought that it was the perfect end the Captain America trilogy. After being given the shield by Howard Stark in his first movie, he was now protecting the man who killed him from the government.

That was a strong scene that really makes people think about the character of Cap. In The First Avenger, he was made during WW2 by the US Government so that he could fight Nazis. Basically, to be a national symbol of hope. In The Winter Soldier, he learned that SHIELD, the new version of the SSR that created him in the first place, is actually infiltrated by Hydra. He was on the run from the government now, although he was still fighting Hydra at the same time. In Civil War, he went fully rogue. He was no longer on the run to fight Hydra, but he still believed he was doing the right thing. The problem is lots of criminals believe what their doing is also the right thing. And just like that, Cap went from a mascot of the government to a threat to the government in just three movies without making him blatantly seem like an antagonist.

And that is why the scene was so strong. However, I don’t think it was strong enough to be Steve’s last scene as Captain America. Sure, he dropped the shield. But they should have made it more clear that Steve is sick of this business. There should have been an extra scene somewhere where he explains to Falcon or Bucky (the two candidates to take on the mantle) about why he’s quitting the job. Every time Steve stopped being Cap in the comics, it was because he physically couldn’t. Either he was “dead” or he was turned into a 90-year-old guy.

So, as much as I hate to say this, I really want Steve to die in Infinity War. It will put even more weight onto the character and there will actually be a reason for why he’s not fighting crime anymore.

Tomorrow I will be doing a post about who I think will be the next Captain America. I hope you enjoyed this post. Don’t forget to like me on Facebook and subscribe to me on YouTube. But that’s it from me for now. See Thee Soon!
