Clint woke up. For a second, he could still see visions of the battle. But then he realised that he was lying on a death bed in a hospital.
“Ah, Mr. Barton.” A nurse came into his room. “I can see you woke up. How are you feeling?”
“I’m, uh, I’m feeling great. Thank you.”
“Anything I can help you with, Sir?”
“Yeah, actually, erm, how long have I been here for?”
“Exactly a week.”
“Would you like to have a walk around?”
“Yeah, why not?” It took Clint a while to get out of his bed. He was in a lot of pain. The nurse handed him a crutch and they walked to the waiting room, where Tony, Steve and Thor were waiting. Clint was very happy to see them. Suddenly, though, he looked at the TV. It was the WHIH News.
“It is now two weeks since the start of the fight in New York. Some of the damage might never be repaired. The Avengers are to blame.” “But the Avengers saved our damn butts!” “The US Government was capable of doing that. Pretty much everyone who once lived in this majestic city, now lost their home because of them.”
“Don’t listen to them, Clint,” said Cap calmly. “They have no idea what they’re talking about.” Clint turned to the nurse.
“How’s Natasha?” he asked.
“She’s gonna be a few more days.” Clint nodded.
She woke up two days later and from then on, one Avenger visited the two of them almost every day. When nobody was there, Natasha told Clint all about what Maria Hill said with the Howling Commandoes. He was shocked at first, but he wasn’t mad at SHIELD.
Talking about SHIELD, Phil Coulson and the rest of the team also soon recovered. Thor went to Odin’s funeral and was crowned the new King of Asgard. Loki’s body wasn’t recovered, but the helmet was given to his father, Laufey. Thor kept the Sceptre. It took about a year until Clint and Natasha were fully recovered, but some people still hated the Avengers for all of the damage ‘they caused’. There are just some things the Avengers can never fix.
