So, you know the way that some MARVEL Comics (not too sure about DC) have a special page dedicated to letters sent in by the readers? Well, I recently got my letter printed in one!!! MARVEL Legends #3 to be exact. Unfortunately, these comics are only available in the UK and Ireland. But if you wanted to you could probably pick them up on Amazon or Ebay, cause they have really cool storylines. Oh and, by the way, there will be spoilers for Steve Rogers – Captain America #1 in this post. You have been warned!
So, here’s the letter that I sent in:
I’ve been reading the Collectors’ Editions on and off for 2-3 years now. At a certain point I was a R.F.O [RFO means Real Frantic One. Its basically someone who buys three different MARVEL Collectors’ Editions a month]. Then I took a break for a few months and the main reason I got back into these awesome comics was because I started a blog about science fiction (mainly superheroes).
And this is why I think MARVEL Now is awesome. I wanted to get back into comics without having to track down tonnes of back-issues. I read the 3-part Secret Wars run in Avengers Universe (which I loved) and after the universe got restarted I decided that the series I’ll be reading from now on will be MARVEL Legends.
I never really read this series before, so it will be a fun ride. I live in Ireland, so it kind of sucks I have to pay extra due to the Brexit, but I don’t really mind because these comics really are epic.
One thing, however, that I have noticed is happening across all of the Collector’s editions, is that a lot of the classic male caucasian characters are getting their gender and/or race swapped. I don’t really have too much against this, but for the fun, I decided to suggest some female-male gender swaps you might want to consider doing. I don’t want anybody to get offended by this. As I said, this is just a bit of fun.
First of all, Scarlet Witch. He would be called Scarlet Warlock. Next, Spiderwoman. But he wouldn’t be Spiderman, cause that name is already taken. He would have to be called Spiderwoman-man. And last but not least… who wouldn’t want to see a Squirrel Boy? No? just me?
Anyhow, it’d be awesome if this letter actually got printed. And until Steve Rogers becomes Hydra… (wait, that won’t work anymore) [that whole part with Steve Rogers and Hydra got censored from the actual comic probably for containing a spoiler]. Until Thor gets an Iron Man armor, Make Mine Marvel!
Pretty cool letter, huh? Here’s the reply Brady (they guy replying to all the letters) gave me:
Cheers, er… Sci-fi Pie. We’re glad to have you back on board. And thanks for the suggestions, do you have any more?
The reply is nice, short and sweet. But, um, yeah, I guess that I forgot to leave my real name so Ol’ Brady may have been a little confused as to my name on Google+ being Sci-fi Pie.
