I’m going to start doing interviews with different people on my blog. For this first ever Sci-fi Pie interview, I reached out to Arta the Canadian! Arta does amazing minecraft builds based on objects and locations from the Star Wars films. I hope you all enjoy the interview and don’t forget to go on his PlanetMinecraft page to download some of his maps.
My questions and replies are in bold, while Arta’s answers and in italics. If I need to add anything to my questions or his answers to clear something up, I’ll add it in square brackets [like this].
So, the first question is how long, on average, does it take to build each map and is there much of a difference between when you started and now?
It usually takes me a couple of months to complete projects and yeah it’s been an improvement since my Starkiller base map took around a year to complete.
That’s amazing! So how long would your latest project, the Death Star, have taken? [This interview was done quite a while ago. As of right now, his latest project is the Executor ship]
My Death Star project took 11 months to build.
Awesome! The Death Star is probably your biggest project yet if I’m not mistaken. Which is your favourite project/ the one you are the proudest of? Feel free to name a few.
The Death Star and Starkiller Base. They are the two biggest and I’m proudest of them.
The next question is how much research goes into your projects. Would you spend some time going on the wiki pages and re-watching the movies before you actually start building?
Yeah, I usually go on the wiki pages for minor details, but watching the movies certainly helps; especially for my Starkiller Base.
Talking about watching the movies, which is your favourite Star Wars film?
My favourite Star Wars films and ‘A New Hope’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’.
Do you think that the way you watch Star Wars films has changed since you started building these projects in Minecraft? Do you now look out for things you could build?
Yeah. Watching Rogue One, I decided to build Scarif and I am now working on the shield gate. [His Scarif map is already uploaded and is 75% complete]
That’s awesome! I can’t wait to download that when it’s complete!
We’ll finish off with a sillier one. If you could be any Star Wars character, who would you be?
Darth Vader… Pure Badassery.
I would like to thank Arta very much for doing this interview with me. Once again, don’t forget to visit his PlanetMinecraft page and download some of his maps for yourself. I’ve got another interview coming up very soon with Ben McClure, who makes short indie-films online.
